Use Google Chrome Shortcuts Frequently to Speed Up Web Browsing
Let’s use Google Chrome shortcut keyboards everyday and every time you surf the internet. Using shortcuts will not only help us speed up our work with Google Chrome (like other web browsers and applications) but it also shows that you are really a computer professional. There are a hundred of great shortcuts available in Google Chrome, all of which are designed to make our online lives easier.
This article includes 2 main parts:
– Part 1 (Top 10 most useful and often used shortcuts in Google Chrome) is a collection of the most important, useful and frequently used shortcuts in Google Chrome. There are tons of shortcuts in Chrome, but no one can remember them all. That is why I only select top 10 best shortcuts for you in this part. Just remember & use these shortcuts everyday, that is enough to speed up web browsing and improve work efficiency.
– Part 2 (Full list of All shortcuts in Google Chrome browser) is a table of ALL supported shortcuts in Google Chrome. In this table, I classify all the shortcuts into some groups that will help you easy to understand and remember it. I think you don’t need (and it is difficult) to remember them all, but it is a reference and you should remember as many as you can!
Note: These shortcuts are for Windows, but in other OS (Mac, Linux), it is quite similar. For example, in some shortcut keyboards for Windows, it combines Ctrl+ some other key, in MAC OS, you will use the Command key instead of Ctrl key, other keyboards in the combination is the same.
Top 10 most useful and often used shortcuts in Google Chrome
1. Quick open Chrome Download History: Ctrl + J
Where’d that download go? Sometimes we are unable to find the file they just downloaded, where were they saved to?
In Google Chrome, you can easily use the shortcut Ctrl + J to open the Download page, where you can find everything you have downloaded and you also easy to open the folder contains the file(s). Just click “Show in folder” below the downloaded file (see below image).
2. Re-open the last closed tab: Ctrl + Shift + T
If you close a tab by mistake and you want to open again, it is so easy in Google Chrome. Just use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + T. It will reopen the last tab you’ve closed in a new tab and switch to the tab. Google Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs you’ve closed (if you do not use the shortcut, you have to open Chrome History then find the website to reopen it)
3. Jump to the next open tab: Ctrl+Tab
We usually open many tabs in a single Chrome window, each tab opens a website. To quick jump to the next open tab in that window (circle switch), just use the shortcut Ctrl + Tab. If you want to jump to previous tab, use the shortcut Shift+Tab.
If you want to jump to a specific tab, you need to hold the above keyboards then press the number corresponding the order of the tab. For instance, if you want to jump to the first tab, just press Ctrl + Tab + “1”, if you want to jump to 2nd tab, just press Ctrl + Tab + “2”,… if you want to jump to the last tab, just press Ctrl + Tab + “9” (please note that “last tab“, not 9th tab, because you can open 10, even 20 tabs in a single Chrome window)
4. Quick open Chrome Bookmark Manager: Ctrl + Shift + O
The shortcut Ctrl + Shift + O allow you to open Chrome Bookmark Manager in a new tab (chrome://bookmarks/). This is a very useful shortcut, because we usually add many websites as our bookmarks.
Some other useful shortcut for Bookmarks in Chrome are: Ctrl + Shift + B (Show or hide the Bookmarks Bar) and Ctrl+D (Add current web page as a bookmark)
5. Quick open a new tab: Ctrl+T
– To open a new tab, use the shortcut Ctrl + T
– To open new Chrome window in Inconitgo mode (for more secure), we can use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N.
6. Jump to the Address Bar: Alt + D or F6 or Ctrl + l
In Chrome, we can quick jump to the Address Bar by pressing one of these shortcuts: Alt+D or F6 or Ctrl+I. I prefer to the shortcuts Alt+D and F6 because the shortcut Ctrl+I may be conflicted with other applications’ shortcut. For example, in Editor mode, Ctrl + I is shortcut for italic characters.
7. View page source code (HTML) of a website: Ctrl + U
To display HTML source code for the current page, press shortcut combined keyboards Ctrl + U. Chrome will open the page source code in a new tab and switch to the tab. This shortcut is very useful for webmasters and web developers.
8. Change Chrome window size: Ctrl + 0, Ctrl+”+”, Ctrl + “-“
– To change the window size of Google Chrome, use the shortcut Ctrl+”+” (zoom out) or Ctrl + “-“ (zoom in)
– To restore/reset the default window size, press Ctrl + “0”.
9. Shortcuts for hyperlinks:Alt + click a link, Ctrl + click a link, Shift+ click a link
– To download the target of a link (a web page or a file) without opening the link, hold Alt key then click on the link.
– To open a link in a new tab, hold Ctrl key then click on the link (we can also click on the link using mid-click from a mouse but it is not familiar because we usually do a left-click)
– To open a link in a new Chrome window, hold Shift key then click on the link
10. Type a keyword in Address Bar for quick searching
Instead of opening Google Search website (https://google.com) then type a keyword in the search form, now we can input (type or copy/paste) a keyword directly right in Address Bar of Chrome then press Enter. Google Chrome will search for the keyword with the default search engine of your Chrome (In most case, it is Google Search Engine) and display the result in the current tab.
One more tip for Chrome Address Bar is to quick open a website. For example, if you want to go to my website: www.easytipz.com, you don’t need to type the full URL, just type easytipz then hold Ctrl key and press Enter, Chrome will auto fill “www” and “.com” for you (and Chrome will open the website www.easytipz.com)

In below table, you can refer the full list of about one hundred shortcuts in Chrome browser. It is very difficult to remember all of these shortcuts. I think if we remember and use frequently 10 Chrome shortcuts above, we can speed up our work with internet browser (research, find some information or just relax in free time), of course, the more Chrome shortcuts you can remember and use, the more professional you are.
