This one is the second most common type of piercing after the most common earlobe one. The cartilage is the topmost outer part of the ear and it is fairly easy to get it pierced since it is easily accessible. It is also not as painful as the rest of the piercing. 5) Anti-tragus

As the name suggests this area is opposite to the Tragus. It is the raised hard skin of the cartilage close to the face. For most people this area is very small and hence it is a rare place to get an ear piercing. Be extra careful with this one as it is said to be very painful and uncomfortable and has higher chances of infection. This too takes about 8-16 weeks to heal and completely heal in 12 months.

4) Industrial

Also known as ‘scaffold lobe piercing’, this can be best described as two holes with one rod. Seriously this piercing is made by creating a hole on the cartilage and one is the area in front of the cartilage which is closer to the head and these two holes are bind by the same piece of jewellery. This also known as ‘construction piercing’. Choose a comfortable rod for this one as it should be long enough to fit both the holes without hurting and only change the jewellery once the holes are healed. Healing time is between 6-12 months.

3) Daith

The daith is the bridge of the earlobe that is situated just above the canal of the ear. This is particularly a difficult place to access as well as the cartilage of the region is a bit hard. But needless to say it looks amazing. Just like most of the risky piercings, this one too takes 8-16 weeks to heal but complete healing can take up to a year. It is pronounced as ‘doth’.

2) Gauging

Most people have their earlobes pierced when they are quite young. Gauging of earlobes is just an extension of that lobe. Instead of a needle sized hole, a huge vacuum is created in the earlobe and this is done by gradually stretching hole by using bigger and bigger rings one after the other. You really have to be courageous to think of doing this one. A helix is a ring of continuous piercing along the entire periphery of the ear. So all together you might have 25-30 holes on each ear. Naturally this takes a bit longer to heal completely. In some cases it takes even a year to your ear to be comfortable with a helix. But mind you, please think hard before deciding on doing this as it might be something that you might regret later on…So this is not one thing think that you should do when you’re drunk.
